To improve the telecommunications infrastructure, the Andorra Telecom (the only operator in the Principality) has made progress in several strategic projects:
-
DTT. Andorra only has a digital terrestrial television (DTT) signal. In September 2007, transmission of the analog signal was stopped, making Andorra one of the first countries in the world to adopt the DTT system.
-
Fibre optics to the home. Andorra Telecom has begun work on bringing fibre optic cables to every home and company in the country (fibre to the home, ftth). This new infrastructure, which will be completed in 2010, will enable new high quality services to be offered: Internet with symmetrical speeds of up to 100 Mbps, advanced telephone services, high definition television, a la carte television, and new opportunities and services for companies.
-
3.5G. Commitments to widespread, comprehensive coverage will be met through 3.5G technology (HSDPA). Andorra Telecom offers a wide range of services in the field of mobile phones.
